Cycling Justice

Question

Alex asked:  I had a fellow cyclist hit and injured by a car recently in Lee County Florida.  He was riding in a group (single file) in a substandard width roadway without a bike lane.  The driver that hit him never stopped.  Obviously there were several laws violated in this case.  What is the most disturbing is that once law enforcement located the driver, she admitting hitting the cyclist and was given a court date.  According to the sheriff’s office, she wasn’t arrested because of her age and she was “no threat” to society.  I and fellow cyclists in the area (and probably beyond) find this very disturbing.  Is there any advice FBA can offer to the local cycling community or my fellow cyclist to seek justice where we believe injustice has occurred?

Answer

Separately, I will forward your comments and question to the FBA board.
