Bicycles on the Sidewalk in Riverview
Question
Becky asked: My boyfriend lives in Riverview and I live in St. Petersburg. He says in Riverview you cannot ride on the sidewalk unless you plan to get a ticket. Is this true?
Answer
Lacking a local ordinance to the contrary, there is no Florida statutory prohibition to riding a bicycle on the sidewalk.
s. 316.2065 – Bicycle Regulations
(9) A person propelling a vehicle by human power upon and along a sidewalk, or across a roadway upon and along a crosswalk, has all the rights and duties applicable to a pedestrian under the same circumstances.
Apparently, Riverview is an unincorporated area of Hillsborough County and county codes would apply.
I can find no Muni Codes for Riverview, nor any mention of bicycles on the sidewalk in the Hillsborough County Muni Codes.

It appears riding bicycles on the sidewalk is legal in Riverview.
I recommend asking a law enforcement officer in Riverview, probably a county Deputy Sheriff since there apparently is no Riverview Police Department, if bicycles are prohibited from sidewalks. If the answer is Yes, ask for the regulation or ordinance that so states.
